About

We study the home at the scale of real life.

Living Picks is an independent Sydney-based editorial studio and media project for people making considered choices about their surroundings.

01 / Mission

Make good judgement easier to use

Our mission is to connect the visual intelligence of an editorial publication with the practical clarity of a well-structured brief. We cover home ideas, interiors, decor, products, comfort and seasons because people experience them together.

We write for curious residents, emerging practitioners, experienced professionals and small organisations. The aim is not to dictate taste, but to reveal the questions that make a choice more coherent, useful and grounded.

02 / Research

Observe before recommending

Our method begins with routines, physical constraints and the language people use to describe a problem. We measure where dimensions matter, separate evidence from preference and compare options against the same criteria.

For editorial work, we examine material specifications, care requirements, local conditions and the context behind a claim. When information is incomplete, we say so; useful guidance depends as much on its limits as on its confidence.

03 / Practice

Test recommendations against ordinary days

A recommendation must make sense after the room is no longer styled. We ask how it will be cleaned, stored, moved, repaired and shared, and whether it still supports the household when time or attention is limited.

We also check seasonal and spatial fit. An idea borrowed from another climate, dwelling type or way of life may still inspire, but it should be adapted before it becomes advice for an Australian setting.
